Sónia & Greg's wedding - Sintra, My Vintage Wedding

Hi! Are you on holidays already? Well, if so, you’ll have time for this long story…

We’re full speed with weddings and editing, but wanted to blog again.

Once upon a time, the 4th of August of 2018, there was record of the warmest day of the year. We must confess, it was a bit difficult to photograph outdoors. The same difficulty of a cold and rainy winter day. It’s was hard to go outside. Here, in Sintra, the temperature was 44ºC!!

Anyway, we suffered a lot this day but it was totally worth it! It was our first time in the famous venue Quinta d’Arriaga, or The Quinta - My Vintage Wedding . We felt overwhelmed when we arrived there. We couldn’t be happier to have the opportunity to photograph a wedding here. (By the way, the place where groom was getting ready was also iconic! The Tivoli Palácio de Seteais!)

Sónia & Greg trusted us. We had a blast with them, their friends and family. But the night was even more crazy because this guys: Original Bandalheira.

Have a look. Fell free to send us some love if you like it!

Isle of Skye: behind the scenes

Remember the post about the Isle of Skye elopement? Well, it was a great adventure!

Scotland is such an amazing place. The landscape is completely different from what we’re used to. The light (or the lack of it), the tones, the nature, the mountains, the houses… everywhere we went kept us inspired. We looked like kids in a candy store, climbing, jumping, ending the days with soaked socks and muddy shoes.

As you can imagine, since we landed at Inverness airport till we flew back again, we never stoped taking photos.

This is a different post. This is the BTS of a friends trip. The actors are: Luciana & João (the newly weds), Miguel & André (the Lapela’s) and the great video man Joel da Palma.

Lapela photography: Best of Weddings - 2018

Mais um ano passou.

Muitas horas passámos a fotografar.

Another year has passed.

We photographed for many hours. And spent many more through edition at the computer. Thousands of images passed in front of our retinas. But there is always that photo, which for some reason makes us spend some time looking at it. Because it was a special moment... because it tells a story... because it fulfills us with its composition... because it stands out through its light... because we simply like it and cannot explain why.

This is the criteria we use when we are willing to do this hassle of trying to choose the best of the best. But this is also an exercise that helps us find our own style and identity, until the day comes when someone looks at our photo and unknowingly says, "This is Lapela!"

Here they are. After a few hours of debate between us two and many: "take this one out" vs "this one has to stay", we tardily present our 2018 best of!

Joana & Rúben: At the old mine

We were searching for the perfect couple to shoot in an abandoned mine we’ve known some time ago. We wanted to be like this: dark, dusty, raw, dry.

Joana and Rúben took the challenge.

What we’ve learned from them: “Be different. Be passionate. Be good. Find your style. Find yourself.”
