Lapela photography: Best of Weddings - 2018

Mais um ano passou.

Muitas horas passámos a fotografar.

Another year has passed.

We photographed for many hours. And spent many more through edition at the computer. Thousands of images passed in front of our retinas. But there is always that photo, which for some reason makes us spend some time looking at it. Because it was a special moment... because it tells a story... because it fulfills us with its composition... because it stands out through its light... because we simply like it and cannot explain why.

This is the criteria we use when we are willing to do this hassle of trying to choose the best of the best. But this is also an exercise that helps us find our own style and identity, until the day comes when someone looks at our photo and unknowingly says, "This is Lapela!"

Here they are. After a few hours of debate between us two and many: "take this one out" vs "this one has to stay", we tardily present our 2018 best of!

Luciana & João: Isle of Skye - Scotland

The story we are about to tell you was an adventure that marked our first gig outside of the country.

We were put up to the challenge by our friends Luciana and João, whose plan was to marry in a destination outside of Portugal in a very different venue we had ever photographed. It would be only us and them, although posteriorly, Joel da Palma came on board as a videographer. They thought about exchanging vows and wedding rings in an iconic place, surrounded by the purest silence and the gorgeous landscapes of the Isle of Skye in Scotland.

So without any rehearsals or preparation, what you are about to see are images of a real couple on real emotions. And this trip will be one of the most incredible experiences that we had as wedding photographers. It was indeed to entrail ourselves into the memory of these two persons and to stay with them forever.

Please, check the video below by Joel da Palma.

Charlotte & Ryan destination wedding at Caldas de Monchique, Algarve

Although we know that the south of Portugal is known for its beautiful beaches, there’s much more to offer. Near Monchique, in the countryside, there’s a little oasis called Caldas. That was the place where Charlotte & Ryan choose to get married.

There were tears, joy, fun, laughter… there was a band, festoon lights and a barbecue… and of course… there was also a very happy marriage!

Joana & Rúben: At the old mine

We were searching for the perfect couple to shoot in an abandoned mine we’ve known some time ago. We wanted to be like this: dark, dusty, raw, dry.

Joana and Rúben took the challenge.

What we’ve learned from them: “Be different. Be passionate. Be good. Find your style. Find yourself.”

(By the way, please search for “Son of Ink” and check their amazing talent)
